Back in the Sunlight

The brain fog has cleared and I can see me again. For the longest time, MS controlled me. It controlled my thoughts, my energy, my furture. MS put restrictions on my life. Things such as sitting outside in the South Carolina heat in August, or walking a few miles in the heat, or travelling far from home. The fear I would feel at the thought of doing these things and the anxiety it brought was crippelling. Living with restrictions and not having control was daunting. And I let this disease control me in those ways for almost 10 years.

Now at 51, I can honestly tell you that it no longer has control. Leaving the house on a hot day, doesn’t scare me. Taking a long walk is doable. And travelling to far away places has become something I look forward to. Letting go of the anxiety and fear that froze my life in many ways is energizing. Being able to see and plan a future has brought the sunlight back into my life. I wish I could tell you how to do it, or when to do it or how not to do it. But, I believe we all have our own journey with this disease and each step we take in reclaiming our lives is a win even if it’s just for a day.
